This blog aims to document the trials, tribulations, and hopefully occasional triumphs, of a librarian attempting to become a Chartered Member of CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals).
I decided to write this blog in attempt to provide myself with additional motivation to charter, and perhaps as a way of networking with other librarian bloggers who are also going through the chartership process. If you are such as person please leave a comment and let me know!
I’m an Assistant Librarian in the Reader Services team in a university library in the UK and I’ve been in my current job for just over three years. Before this, I was a Senior Library Assistant in a further education college.
Hi Lilian,
Thanks so much for having a look at my blog
I’ve added yours to my list too. In fact, I think I might post to the LIS-BLOGGERS group inviting others to join us!

Hi!
I happened upon your blog whilst looking for information on eventually doing my chartership. I’ve just started my job as a Library Manager at a small college in North Wales and love it. I’ve been working on and off in my local library to finance my studies: a BA and recently an MTh. Unfortunately both qualifications are in feminist philosophy rather than library work but I’m hoping to do a conversion course of somekind. I hope your chartership is going ok, it’s really hard to keep pushing yourself to study so I think you’re on to a good thing with this blog.
Lots of smiles,
Anna
Hi Anna,
Thanks for your comment. I also did a BA and MTh and then did a further postgrad course in Library and Information Studies (one year full time). You could look into doing something part-time and carry on working at the same time. You can also do a certification course through CILIP and once you have this you are then eligible to appy for Chartership. Sorry if you know all this already!
Thanks for the encouragement!
Lilian
